Movie Review

I only have one movie to review today since we didn't watch a lot of movies this week. We're trying to watch everything we have DVRd before we send our Dish units back. We are not going to be going with Dish again. Every time it rained we lost our signal. Even if it was just a sprinkle or even a little windy. We just weren't happy with it. Anyone have any suggestions for us on what to go with next time?

"Secondhand Lions" follows the comedic adventures of an introverted boy left on the doorstep of a pair of reluctant, eccentric great-uncles, whose exotic remembrances stir the boy's spirit and re-ignite the men's lives.

Katie's Opinion:
Katie watched this movie for the second time as she liked it. She rates it an 8 and recommends it to families as well.

Monday Movie Review

OOPS! I missed last week's movie review. Just way too much going on I guess! This week I am reviewing a couple of older movies. You won't find these in the "New Release" aisle! We didn't rent them, but watched these 2 movies while house/dog sitting this past weekend.

Alex and Emma
2003

{Website here. }

PLOT:
Alex (Luke Wilson) is an author whose writer's block and gambling debts have landed him in a jam. In order to get loan sharks off his back, he must finish his novel in 30 days or wind up dead. To help him complete his manuscript he hires stenographer Emma (Kate Hudson). As Alex begins to dictate his tale of a romantic love triangle to the charming yet somewhat opinionated stenographer, Emma challenges his ideas at every turn.

Angel's Five Star review:
A good classic "chick flick", I give this romantic comedy ***1/2 Three and a half Stars!

Katie's Opinion:

Katie gives this movie a seven on a scale of one to ten. She liked it for the most part. There was just one scene that she thought was unnecessary.

Big Fish
2003

{Trailers here. }.
PLOT:
Edward Bloom (Finney) has always been a teller of tall tales about his life as a young man (McGregor), when his wanderlust led him on an unlikely journey around the world. Bloom charms almost everyone he encounters except for his estranged son.

Angel's Five Star Review:
Another ****FOUR Stars from me for this drama/fantasy/comedy/adventure. I enjoyed the fairy tale stories being told by the father. A great "feel good" movie. But, do have your tissues handy!

Kevin's Point of View:
It's always nice to have another viewpoint and Kevin watched this movie with us so I asked him what he thought. On a scale of one to ten he gives the show a five. He didn't care for the flashbacks and felt the movie just didn't capture him.

Monday Movie Review

Katie and I cashed in more Coke rewards points this week and headed to Blockbuster. We picked out "Bella" and "August Rush".

Bella

PLOT:
Sooner or later every one of us will face an irreversible moment that will change our lives forever. If it hasn't happened to you yet...it will. BELLA is a true love story about how one day in New York City changed three people forever.

Angel's Five Star Review:

ONE Star *~ Although this movie received many awards and great reviews, it just never picked up for me. It had a good message, but could have been delivered much better in my opinion.

Katie's Opinion:

Katie gives this movie a 2 on a scale of one to ten. It wasn't to her liking.

August Rush

PLOT:
A drama with fairy tale elements, where an orphaned musical prodigy uses his gift as a clue to finding his birth parents.

{Trailer here.}

Angel's Five Star Review:
Four and a half Stars ****1/2
This was another great family movie that both Katie and I enjoyed.

Katie's Opinion:
Katie gives this movie a 7. She says: "It was a good movie, but she didn't like the ending so much."

I want to thank those of you who left some movie recommendations last week. I will definitely be renting some of those selections! Any more?

Monday Movie Review

I've decided to add a new weekly feature on my blog. And I'm hoping some of you will do the same! If you're like me, you will pass by a movie on the shelf just because the cover doesn't look good. I am sure I've watched many a bad movie because the cover DID look good and missed a good movie on account of some bad artwork!
I'd love some recommendations for good movies from you as well. Let me know in the comments section, if you've seen a good movie lately!
Just so you'll know my tastes, I'll tell you that I like a fairly clean movie. Chick flicks are right up my alley. I am also fond of Super Hero movies, but too much action gives me a headache! I also like movies designed more for children (think Willy Wonka).
This last week, Katie and I cashed in some of Kevin's many Coke Rewards points and hit Blockbuster for 2 movies, 2 cokes and a bucket of popcorn- free!

We rented
Stardust

{In a countryside town bordering on a magical land, a young man makes a promise to his beloved that he'll retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm.}
Trailers here.

and The Ultimate Gift

{Jason thought his inheritance was going to be the gift of money and lots of it. Was he ever in for a big surprise...}

Angel's Five Star Review~
I really liked BOTH of these movies and highly recommend them. My favorite of the 2 was Stardust which had a great cast including Robert DeNiro and Michelle Pfeifer. It borders on Chick-flick status, but it had enough adventure that even Kevin liked the movie.
Stardust:
FIVE Stars *****
The Ultimate Gift:
Four and a half Stars ****1/2
AND
Katie's Opinion~
[on a scale of 1 to 10]
Great movies to see with your family!
Stardust: 8
The Ultimate Gift: 10
