Another Christmas Card

I really liked Beate's sketch this week. So I made another card with it! This time I didn't turn the sketch.

I used some Basic Grey Figgy Pudding papers and my favorite color- Soft Sky. The vintage ric rac was given to me a while back from a dear friend and it worked so perfectly with this card. I love it!
Thanks for visiting!

And the Winner Is....

The names were all in the bowl! Kevin reached in.
And drew the name...

She said...
Angel, you KNOW I will be right there with you all the way! More reason to hurry up and get my stamps unpacked when my stuff comes on Monday so I can be ready to play!!! I've been without my stamps for 3 months and I'm itching to work!!

It was as fair as it comes! The winner has been contacted.

The poll is closed and we came SO close to 100 votes- only 12 away.
I am happy to announce there will be a Days of Angelosity.
I felt it was a little drawn out last year and a bit of stress for me so in order to make it less stressful I am going to shorten it. It won't last 31 days! How about 18? The celebration will begin October 20th and end November 7th. That starts us out on a Monday and we end on a Friday. I'll post a challenge and/or a sketch every day of the celebration AND add a prize to the basket to be given away at the end. I'll have smaller drawings and prizes along the way. You won't want to miss out! Mark your calendars and be sure to visit me then!
Have a GREAT weekend!
~Angel

At the Name of Jesus...

Yep, I am still playing with those new releases coming October 1st from Our Daily Bread Designs! You're going to love this one! It's called Reason for the Season and besides the first card I posted here, you can see some fabulous cards from Lorelie, Jami and Jane by clicking on their name.
I started out my card with Beate's fabulous Weekend Sketch #59!

If you love sketches, put this one in your sketch journal.

It was a lot of fun to work with!I did flip the sketch on it's side as I thought it gave me a place for my sentiment which fit absolutely perfectly!
You may recall a few posts ago where I stated I was not going to purchase the new "in-colors". And as tempted as I've been, I still have not. The Riding Hood Red and Bella Rose DP pieces you see here as well as the pretty scalloped border were sent to me by friends. I love my friends!
Thank you for stopping by today and I hope you have a fabulous weekend!
Don't forget about the free shipping at ODBD this weekend!

Footprints

If you haven't yet heard about the marvelous prize Carolyn King (Cammie) is offering to help promote World Alzheimer's Day, you may have been under a rock somewhere. But you can read more about it here. You have until 8 PM today to enter. When I posted my entry there were already over 600!

I chose the new "Footprints" set from Our Daily Bread to make a card to send to the staff at The Artman Home in honor of World Alzheimer's Day. I don't have a personal link to this disease, but this is where Cammie suggested we send a card.
This Footprints poem is so inspirational. I am sure I will be using it often and I'm so happy it's part of my stamp collection! You can get yours on October 1st! That's less than one week away!

Did you know that Our Daily Bread Designs is celebrating their 1/2 year birthday? This week marks 1/2 year in business (and many gorgeous stamp sets)! To celebrate, Kelley is offering a special this weekend! Use this special code and get yourself that set you've been eyeing!!

I'll be back soon with the winner of my Blog Candy and an announcement!

We 3 Kings

Here is another card with the soon to be released "We Three Kings" set from Our Daily Bread. THIS time my kings are securely on their camels and on their way downhill. {teehehe}
I started out with this week's sketch at Splitcoast. As always a great source of inspiration!
I pulled out one of the designer paper packs (Le Jardin) from last year's Stampin Up catalog. I "had to have it" but think I've only used it once. So sad. I'm trying hard this year to think twice before making purchases. And that's why I'm using last year's "in-colors". I've came to the conclusion that I don't need this year's "in-colors". If I keep buying them, I'll have to get rid of some of them and I like most of them too much!
Have you voted on my poll yet? Looks like we're close to 100 votes. I wonder if we'll get there. I'll draw a name tomorrow and let you know my decision then.
Have a great Thursday everybody!

Reason for the Season

Jesus is the reason for the season.

I remember when I first heard this statement. That year almost everyone in my office had a pin that said those words! I still have mine! It's such a very true statement! AND it is the name of one of Our Daily Bread Designs' newest sets to be released October 1st!

I started out with this sketch from Taylor in mind. But, I didn't check the sketch as I was working so you see I strayed a bit. No worries. It's still a Christmas card and I can still send it!
(You should know- I computer generated my own "Jesus" for the oval as the one in the set was too large for the shape.)
TWO more days to vote and to enter to win this Halloween stash! Spread the word!
Have a great day!

Footprints in the Sand

I'm using another soon to be released set from Our Daily Bread Designs! This set as well as 3 others will be released October 1st!This one is Footprints in the Sand. A set of 4, it features the footprints image, 2 scriptures and the well-known Footprints in the Sand "poem". Here I've used one of the scriptures and created a "One-Layer" card. (I guess technically the tag adds another layer.) I wanted to show you how versatile the images are. You can be as elaborate or as simple as you want. My card is simple and
Kaleidacolor pads make stamping easy. I pulled out one of my favorite K-pads~ "Caribbean Sea". It's old but still inky!
I added a little dimension with some glitter. I wish you could see how sparkly it is!
Don't forget to vote on my poll and leave a comment on THIS post for your chance at the blog candy!
Thanks for visiting!

A "Like Jen" Cupcake Card

Sharon's Stamp Simply Challenge this week was to copy the style of Jennifer Buck. I browsed through her blog, loving every minute. Her style is Clean, Fresh, Cute and Classy according to Sharon and I quite agree! My little 4x4 card doesn't do her justice, but I had fun trying! And I got to play with a new (to-me) set from a sweet friend!
I've got more new ODBD stuff to show you so come back!

Butterfly Kisses

Butterfly Kisses.
That's what I call my blog candy!

I promised you some candy and I am here to deliver!
Lots of Halloween stuff here!
(See the postscript for a list of included items!)

Last year I pulled out all of the stops and gave away a ton of stamping stuff including a subscription to PaperCrafts magazine. I called this sketchy month long celebration leading up to my birthday The 31 days of Angelosity. It was a lot harder than I imagined to keep up with. And I wasn't sure if I should even attempt to do it again. That's where the poll comes in. I've already had several of you vote. But, I've decided to add a week to the poll and see if I can get more votes! Here's the deal.... if I can get 100 votes on my poll, I'll definitely attempt the celebration again! That means you have to get the word out. Tell your friends to come and vote.
In order to be included in the drawing, please leave a comment here persuading me to have the celebration again. Be sure to tell me if you plan to play.
(extra points later for this!)
If you've posted on your blog to send your readers here, let me know and I'll put your name in twice!
Drawing will be held next Friday morning after the poll closes!
Thanks for visiting!
Now VOTE!

A Christmas Card

I mentioned that I received the October releases for Our Daily Bread. Well, I got a chance to play with one of the sets yesterday. It's called "We Three Kings" and I am really liking it for my Christmas cards.

I didn't realize until someone told me that I had these kings falling off their camels! It's too late to change it now. I guess I stamped it the way it fit onto my acrylic block. But, these guys are supposed to be on their way DOWN the hill. I guess I have them stopping their camels and looking UP at the star. Yes, that's it. Oh, well. Live and learn. Other than that, I really like the card. Using this week's sketch on SCS, I got to use up some scraps! I also tried out the technique from this week's tutorial on Splitcoast. It's called Striped Wipe as you use reinkers on a baby wipe and just stripe it across the glossy cardstock. I had to find and dust off my glossy cardstock first. That paper just doesn't come out very often.
Thanks for stopping by!

Inspired

I watch the little hummingbirds each and every day. I now have 2 hummingbird feeders because the first one would leak onto the windowsill and bring other little pests that were quite unwanted. We moved that one out to a nearby tree. And we purchased a new feeder that the little guys can actually sit down and eat from. This one does not leak.It took them a few days to decide they liked it, but now they use it often.
Watching these little guys inspired me to pull out a couple of hummingbird stamps that I have had for years. And pouring over Jerri's blog, "A Touch of Grace" inspired me to pull out my gold embossing powder!

I embossed the image in gold detail powder and then carefully bleached out the inside areas with a small paint brush. Then I took my pastels (chalks) and colored in those same areas. I haven't done this in years, but I just love the look.
Here is a close-up:

New Poll

I've got a new poll on my sidebar and I'd love to hear your thoughts. Last year I had a little bit of fun in the month leading up to my birthday....and I called it the 31 Days of Angelosity. Each day I offered a card sketch to those who wanted to participate and be entered in the drawing. I added prizes to a basket that I gave away at the end. It was a BIG prize and I also had other drawings along the way. Visit this link to see what it was all about.
So, what do you think? Should I bring it back this year? Take my poll and let me know your thoughts!
Thanks~

Riddle Me This...

I've been seeing the cutest Halloween cards around Blogland. My latest issue of PaperCrafts was also filled with fun ideas for fall and Halloween.
My own selection of Halloween stamps and supplies was extremely limited. Last year I made 5 cards with limited supplies- here, here, here, here, and here. After Halloween was over, though, I picked up a few things at 70% off. And I've had fun the last couple of days playing with them.
I started out with Beate's weekend sketch for my "riddle" card. The little witch feet stamp was from the Michael's $1.00 bin. (cost me 30 cents)
The riddle was computer generated.
I found it on the wrapper of a Laffy Taffy.
I couldn't resist making it into a card since I know a certain young man who just loves jokes and riddles.
The image actually flips up to reveal the answer to the riddle.
So,
what
is a
witches'
favorite
subject?

Do
You
know?
It's

Of course!
Have a good one!

Amethyst Angel

I knew as soon as I received this ODBD "Angel" set in the mail that I wanted to paper piece this angel's dress. If you aren't familiar with paper piecing, it's quite simple. You stamp your image on a piece of decorative paper and cut out the part of the image you want to have that design. Still confused? Here is a great step by step tutorial!
I wanted a scripture on my card, but ran out of room, so I stamped the verse onto a piece of a transparency (overhead projector) sheet and placed it on top of the angel adhering it at the corners (under the corner punches). It's hard to tell in the picture, but the angel's wings are shiny and sparkly as I used a Sakura Stardust Gelly Roll pen on them.
Thank you for visiting me today!
Have a great weekend!

Desk Set

One of my favorite things to make is a desk set. I had already made my girlfriend a little prayer journal and to-do list so I thought I would go ahead and make her a desk set to go with it.

Included in her gift is a memo cube,

desk calendar,

bookmark, pencil cup and pens.

This was pretty simple, but I think she'll like it.
I hope it comes in handy for her desk since she's a teacher!

Happy Teddy Bear Day!

If you've got time, here are my teddy bear ramblings:

The teddy bear is a stuffed toy bear. It is an enduring, traditional form of stuffed animal often serving the purpose of comforting children.
And today is Teddy Bear day
according to my wacky holiday list!

Do you know where the term Teddy Bear comes from?
According to Wikipedia:
"The name Teddy Bear comes from one of President Theodore Roosevelt's hunting trips.... A suite of Roosevelt's attendants, led by cornered and tied to a tree an
American Black Bear after a long exhausting chase. They called Roosevelt to the site and suggested he shoot it. He refused to shoot the bear himself, deeming this unsportsmanlike, but instructed that the bear be killed to put it out of its misery. This became the topic of a political cartoon... later issues of cartoons made the bear smaller and cuter.
A Brooklyn store owner saw the drawing ...and was inspired to create a new toy. He created a little stuffed bear cub and put it in his shop window with a sign that read "Teddy's bear." The toys were an immediate success....
By 1906 manufacturers had joined in and the craze for Teddy Bears was such that ladies carried them everywhere, children were photographed with them, and Roosevelt used one as a mascot in his bid for re-election."

Have you ever been to Build-a-Bear?
My younger son Brian's very first job was working at Build-a-Bear Workshop. We had to go and make a bear while he was working there. I love my teddy bear.

I also still have my oldest son's very first teddy bear. He's a little worse for wear and sadly no longer winds up to play
"Brahm's Lullaby". But I plan on surprising him and giving it back to him one day when he's older.

Check out these Teddy Bears!

A teddy bear USB drive!

After my uncle Wick passed away, my aunt made all of their children and grandchildren teddy bears like these out of his many flannel shirts! What a great idea!

You can make a teddy bear cake with the pans sold here.

I can't forget my very stamp set which I still have....
Button Bear!

Happy Teddy Bear Day!

September Divine Design

I have been drooling over Kim Hughe's "Silhouettes" line of stamps at CHF. I've been wanting them for so long. Every single card I have seen made with these stamps has been just beautiful. It's definitely one of those "You can't go wrong" sets! I broke down and ordered Nature's Silhouettes and Silhouette Blooms 1 last weekend when CHF doubled their Club points. I am SO happy I did!
I used only 2 stamps from Nature's Silhouettes on my Divine Design project. The leafed stem I inked up in Celery Craft ink and kissed it to an Antique Cracking background stamp. Isn't "kissing" fun?
The verse I chose for my project was one that really spoke to me this week in my Bible study.
"For God has not given us
a spirit of fear and timidity,
but of power love and self-control."
~2 Timothy 1:7
Okay.... God gave me self-control? I sure should be using it!

Can you believe we're on our 9th month of Divine Design? If you haven't been playing along...I hope you'll considering joining me and the rest of the Scripture Chicks- Lori, Jami, Taylor and Nancy. Glorifying God with the talents He gave us. What could be better?
You can find more details on Divine Design on my previous posts. The concept is simple- find a scripture and stamp it or print it and design a project around it! Then post it on your blog or on Splitcoast using keyword BVC08.
My project is a page to a 6x6 book. It will soon be complete!
Thanks for visiting me today!
Blessings

Dove of Peace

I really wanted you to see this card up close! I must have taken (& deleted) over 100 pictures trying to get one that showed how sparkly and shiny this pretty dove was. In the end, this was my best attempt:
The card is simple. It's one of my favorite card sizes at 3x6 inches. You can get 4 cards from a 12x12 sheet of cardstock making cards this size. And it's really a fun size to work with!
I stamped the
ODBD "Peace on Earth" dove, watercolored it a bit and cut it out. Then I coated it with Crystal Effects and added a pinch of Dazzling Diamonds glitter. The sentiment Peace on Earth, I partly inked up twice and stamped part of it on top and the other part on bottom in Basic Grey ink. A double scored line (with my Scor-Pal!)on each side and the dove pop-dotted in the center completed the card. I added some silver cording tied in a bow across the top.
One Christmas card down, 99 to go!
Hope you're all having a great weekend!
Don't forget tomorrow is September 8 and that means Divine Design!
So, come on back now, ya hear?

Another Favorite!

My favorites feature would not be complete without mentioning my favorite cleaning tool of all times- The Mr Clean Magic Eraser. If you've never tried it you absolutely HAVE to try one. When we moved into the home we are now renting, I used this marvelous wonder on the refrigerator which was layered in grime. (I often wondered why they texture the outside of refrigerators.) And the handles? They were a dirt trap! But, my Mr Clean Eraser made the frig sparkle!
I am not kidding!
We also have white counter tops and the eraser takes off almost any stain with ease! Textured bathtub bottoms, scuffs on kitchen floors, even sneakers can look like new.
There are store brands now which offer similar products and I've found they work almost as well. But, Mr Clean also has a heavy-duty eraser which lasts quite a bit longer.
I have made the mistake of using my Mr Clean Eraser on a flat painted wall and it was not a good thing. So be sure to test in an inconspicuous area first.
You'll love this little tool!

Challenge Catch Up

What do you do when you want to play along with Splitcoast Challenges, but life comes along and steals your time? You incorporate as many challenges as you can into one project. That's what I did here when I made this little prayer journal and To-Do list pad for my prayer partner.

The small prayer journal which is made from a spiral 4x6 notebook combines Tuesday's Color Challenge which was to keep it Monochromatic, Wednesday's Sketch Challenge and Thursday's Ways to Use It Challenge which was to use a specialty paper. For the last one I used a lovely sparkly embossed black paper that I had been hoarding by Fiskars' Cloud 9 Design called Romance. I love this verse which comes from Our Daily Bread's "Hope" set. I'm one of those people that stocks up on things so I wish I had another of this stamp because I know I'll probably wear it out!
I've got to help with dinner. We're having Teriyaki Chicken on the grill.
Hope you're all having a great week!

Black Magic Lion

No, I am not losing my mind and I do not believe in Black Magic. But that is what the technique is called that I used on my project today. The concept is to stamp your image in white ink onto black or dark cardstock and color in with colored pencils using Odorless Mineral Spirits. I didn't have the OMS so I used Goo Gone which was mentioned as an alternative for this Splitcoast Challenge.

I used another great new set from Our Daily Bread Designs. Isn't it a beautiful drawing of a lion and lamb? Looking at the image I envisioned it in a half circle so that is where I started. This card gave me many struggles along the way. Not exactly excited with the end result, but I am posting it nonetheless.
Thank you for visiting. I'll be back!

Labor Day Weekend

I hope you all had a great Labor Day Weekend and remembered to fly your flag! We were busy with the house and yard. Kevin's been on the lookout for a riding mower. He had been looking on CraigsList and in the papers for a used one. Most of the ones he found were priced as much as a newer machine so we decided to go the new route. When we moved and changed our address with the post office we were sent a coupon to Lowe's for 10% off our entire purchase so off to Lowe's we went. Kevin got his riding mower and a new charcoal grill as we freecycled our last one instead of bringing it with us. (We had T-bones on the grill last night and they were delish! We've been a month without grill cooking and that's too long for us!)
Kevin and Katie promptly mowed the lawn as soon as we got home!

I bought a new bird feeder and some seed.
This morning I was able to get a good pic of one of the Tufted Titmouses (Titmice?) that found our feeders. I've got a bird field guide on order so I can identify more of the birds who find us! I think I may be getting older as I call this FUN!

We changed the "juice" in our hummingbird feeder since I read online that it doesn't last long in the heat. And this morning I have watched as our resident hummingbird has I am sure drank more than he weighs! We have one little hummingbird who believes he owns the feeder. He is quite territorial. He'll perch on a nearby branch and swoop down whenever another hummingbird tries to take a drink. We can now identify him and have named him "Flash". He's so much fun to watch!
We also bought a salt lick, but have not yet seen any deer. I am sure we will when the weather changes. We thought about buying a deer feeder, but are just too naive on the whole wildlife scene. Kevin and I are city kids wanting to be country folk! Any advice is welcomed. *wink*
I see it's almost noon and I've got lots of work to do both in my house and in my stamp room which is coming along. I am organizing my embellishments by color and am thinking it's going to make life a little easier! Kevin bought me a little cabinet (at Lowe's) to go under my window and it will hold my color coded embellishments quite nicely. I hope to have lots of creations to share with you this week.
Have a Happy Monday!
