Bright & Cheery Take 2

Not a lot of time to chat today. We have quite a bit to do before we take off for South Carolina tomorrow. I wanted to show you another card from my Bright & Cheery set.
This one will go to my mother-in-law who's birthday is coming up.
I experimented with my paper cutter to do some decorative scoring. I think you'll see more of this from me as I just got a new Scor-Pal! Kelley will soon be carrying them in her online ODBD store!
You can see great tutorials for this tool on the Scor-Pal website!

Card Recipe~
Stamps: none
Ink: none
Paper: Green Galore,Pixie Pink, Enchanted DP by The Paper Studio,
Accessories: Primas and dotted brad (The Paper Studio) Rub-ons- Little Yellow Bicycle
"Delightful" , Scoring blade

Thank you all so much for visiting and for your sweet and encouraging comments! I've been so blessed by my online friends!
Happy Thursday!

Happy Cheesecake Day

Yummm.... CHEESECAKE!
This amazing dessert reminds me of my oldest son. He loves it. Lucky him that his new mother-in-law makes amazing cheesecakes!
If you're feeling like making a cheesecake, check out the recipes I found for you!
Southern Living's Double Chocolate Cheesecake
Oreo Cheesecake
White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake
Lemon Ripple Cheesecake Bars
Turtle Cheesecake

Strawberry Pineapple Cheesecake

I wish I had my cookbooks. I would add my Grandma's Pink Cheesecake. That will have to come later I guess!
Cheesecake. Is there a better dessert? It's even Biblical!

According to Wikipedia:
"Cheesecake is a large family of sweet, cheese-based cakes.
Cheesecakes are generally made with soft, fresh cheeses. Other ingredients such as sugar, eggs, flour, and cream are often mixed in as well. Typically, the filling covers a crust, which may be pastry, cookie, or digestive biscuit. The word cheesecake is also used to describe the creamy, cheesy flavour of the dessert. In this usage, there are cheesecake yogurts, ice creams, brownies, and cookies. There are also savoury cheesecakes, often flavoured with blue cheese and served as hors d'oeuvres or with accompanying salads.
Cheesecakes are strongly associated with the Jewish feast of Shavuot, when Jews consume dairy food. The association of milk with Judaism can be traced back to the Song of Songs, which in the Jewish tradition is interpreted as an allegory of the relationship between God and the Children of Israel ("honey and milk are under thy tongue" 4:11, King James translation)."

Bright & Cheery

I found a new line of "Enchanted" background papers from The Paper Studio at Hobby Lobby. They are so pretty and very bright. The very back panel and the Cuttlebugged panel here are 2 of the papers in the line. I've made a set of scrappy cards using these papers. Here is card 1:

Card Recipe~
Stamps: none
Ink: none
Paper: Pixie Pink, Enchanted DPs by The Paper Studio, polka dot- Angelica mat deck by Marcella K & Co
Accessories: Cuttlebug Floral Fantasy Folder, Ribbons- b/w gingham SU, green Ribbon FX, other ?, Rub-ons- Little Yellow Bicycle "Delightful" , Marker to dot corner

We had quite a storm roll through here last night and lost power for several hours. Kevin, Katie and I spent the evening playing UNO on the back porch (screened in). Eventually we had to light a few candles to see our cards. It was so much fun.
Our electricity came back on at about 12:30. We were without power for 5 hours. Think all of our frozen foods will be okay?

Have a Happy Tuesday!

Stained Glass Cross

I wish you could see this card IRL (in real life). It has so much dimension and the pic just doesn't do it justice. This gorgeous True Faith Blue Stained Glass Paper is available at Our Daily Bread. It has a mottled glossy look to it which I wanted to duplicate on my Wild Wasabi background. I dipped a sponge (well, I used a piece of a Mr Clean eraser since I didn't have a sponge) into some Mod Podge and stippled it on. Worked like a charm. It dried in no time and I then ran it through my Cuttlebug using the Diamonds in the Rough embossing folder. Many of the components of this card were popped up with SU Dimensionals. I love those things!
I started out with Lauren's sketch. If you haven't been to see Lauren's blog, you're missing out. She is a stamping machine and one of my favorite stampers!

Card Recipe:
Stamps~ Cross of Christ
Ink~ Black Palette
Paper~ Wild Wasabi, Black, True Faith DP
Accessories~ Cuttlebug, Nestabilities circle and scalloped square dies, Cuttlebug Diamonds in the Rough folder, square black mini brads, Glossy Mod Podge, , Dimensionals

Today is our last Sunday at our home church here in Warner Robins. We'll greatly miss the worship and the teaching here at Southside Baptist. I was so worried about having to find a new church when we moved to Georgia from Kansas. I didn't think any preacher could replace our pastor there. But, we found a great church here in Georgia that I'll be very sad to leave. Once again we'll be looking for a new church home and between the last 2 experiences that bar has been set very high. Thankfully we know God has a place for us.
That's all for me today. Have a sweet Sunday!

Happy Parent's Day

Today is Parent's Day... not a particularly wacky holiday, but one that is not greatly celebrated. I want to take this opportunity to wish all the parents out there a wonderful day. But especially the parents God blessed me with nearly 40 years ago!

Bird Birthday

It's the weekend and I hope you're getting a chance to relax and unwind! I am sitting here in my new lawn chair. Hubby is trying his hardest to make sure I am as comfortable as can be. He is the best. This lawn chair is a lounger. I've got it covered in pillows. *sigh* It's just not a couch.
My best friend, Peg just had a birthday and I sent her this card.

I used a Whipper Snapper image that my sweet friend, Lori sent me a while back and a Gina K sentiment sent by someone else. I like playing with other people's stamps this way. :-)
The color combo was a Splitcoast Color Challenge from a few weeks ago- Wild Wasabi, So Saffron and Almost Amethyst. (CC175) I love trying the color challenges as well as the sketches they offer. I hope to do those on a more regular basis when we get moved.

Card Recipe:
Stamps~ Whipper Snapper & Gina K
Ink~ Palette Black, SU markers- So Saffron, Certainly Celery and Apricot Appeal
Paper~ White, Wasabi, Saffron and Amethyst DP
Accessories~ Prima, Mini brads

Have a great weekend!
Blessings~

Stamping for the Midwest!

I hope you didn't miss THIS announcement on Splitocast! The amazing online community of stampers and scrappers are once again putting other's interests at heart and this time the recipients of their goodwill are the Midwest families who have been devastated by the recent flooding. You probably know, I am a midwest girl myself. I was born in Nebraska and grew up in Iowa and now consider Kansas home. That's pretty midwest, don't you think?
So, when Lori suggested that the Scripture Chicks contribute a little something, I so hoped I could join them. And I did. I was able to provide three pages for the book of scriptures that Lori bound together. Mine were all made using my limited supplies and my Our Daily Bread stamps as my printer was already gone at that point. I can't wait to see what the other girls made {Taylor, Lori, Nancy, Jami}
I know they must be beautiful! The cover (made by Lori Craig) is absolutely gorgeous! Check it out! Here is one of my pages.

Splitcoast is calling it a non-raffle! Too funny. I hope you'll check out the gallery that shows all of the donated items for the relief effort!
And if you're feeling inclined, you can d
onate here!
Have a great Friday!

A Sweet RAK

To me, THE very best part of this blog world phenom is getting to know new people. And one of the sweetest girls I've had the opportunity to meet is Nancy Morgan of Paper Smiles.
I "work" with Nancy on both the Divine Design team and the Our Daily Bread design team. She's so very talented and an inspiration to me in more ways than I can count!

I was overjoyed to receive this lovely card in the mail from Nancy this week.... and on one of the most difficult of days no less. Perfect Timing, Nancy! Thanks so much!

Update...

Amazingly enough we have had two showings today! Thank you all so much for your encouraging comments and for keeping us in your prayers.
I think I had a little bit of a meltdown yesterday. Staying in an empty house, keeping it spotless (not too hard this last month due to it's empty status), having no furniture to relax in and just worrying way too much took it's toll on me I think. Kevin has been wavering a little on when we should actually leave for South Carolina. His last day of work here was Monday. His RNLT (Report No Later Than) Date is August 31st. (He is allowed 8 days for househunting and anything over that is taken from his accrued leave time.) However, schools in that area start back on August 19th. That means we need to find a place to live before the 19th so Katie can actually start her senior year with the rest of her senior class. There are 3 major high schools in the Sumter area. From what we can tell and/or have heard they're all about the same.
Although we were going to stay in this house until August 1st to save a little money, due to my anxiousness and inability to relax here, Kevin is thinking of leaving sooner rather than later.
Just thought I'd give you all an update of what's going on. I SO appreciate being able to share with my friends and family by posting on my blog. If you're visiting to see some stamped stuff, I'll be adding some of that either later today or tomorrow!
Blessings~

Headache, Headache, Go Away....

I am just TOO easily affected by stress. I've been suffering from headaches recently. I have awakened with them nearly every day for the last week it seems. Today I have just not been able to get rid of one. Any easy home remedies? I am willing to try! So far I have rested, taken Excedrin, tried caffeine, used my aromatherapy roll-on from Bath & Body Works and prayed. The headache persists. Arghh........
No stamping for me today.

Great is His Faithfulness

You know how sometimes a song in church will be just what you needed? It's like God's voice assuring you! Yesterday I heard this oldie but goodie hymn and it touched my heart. Maybe someone out there needs it too?

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Refrain
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Refrain

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Refrain

I had a little time to blog AND stamp this weekend so I tried a couple of challenges. I incorporated Sharon's Stamp Simply Challenge {to stamp a card to include the color purple and a flower} with Taylor's Sketch.

Taylor's Sketch has circles, but I made them into flowers for fun. I hope it still counts.

Card Recipe:
Stamps~ Sing to the Lord (Our Daily Bread)
Ink~ Basic Brown, Perfect Plum
Paper~ Perfect Plum, Pale Plum, DP (?) Brown (?)
Accessories~ DD Glitter, Primas & Flowers, Asst Brads

I hope you're all having a relaxing weekend. We are.

Giving Thanks

I am so glad that Kelley chose to release her Thanksgiving set early. I'm having a blast playing with these great stamps AND I am reminded as I play with these images to "Give Thanks". So often we are quick to bring our requests to God, but do we really thank Him enough for the bountiful blessings He has given us? I know I don't.
I've made my card from watercolor paper I bought at Staples. It's not the greatest paper, but worked out okay. (I didn't save out near enough neutral colors from getting packed!) The brown embossed layer is actually a lovely bronze Prism metallic paper which Kelley carries at Our Daily Bread Designs. There are 5 different metallic shades to choose from! This one matched my mini brads perfectly. And I LOVED it embossed with my Textile Cuttlebug folder! Can you tell I covered the cornucopia with Crystal Effects? (My hubby's idea!)
LOOK at this "Give Thanks" set:The set includes that gorgeous cornucopia, 3 scriptures and 3 sentiments plus the bonus Handstamped by" stamp! (Oh, and I {heart} that font!) I wanted my card to include only the word "Blessings". There are a couple of different ways to do that. One is simply to ink up the single word with a marker. I wanted to use my ink pad for better ink coverage so I just put a piece of tape over Thanksgiving in the Thanksgiving Blessings stamp, inked it up in my pad, took the tape off and stamped. I prefer this method.
Card Recipe~
Stamps: Give Thanks (ODBD)
Ink: Basic Brown
Paper: Watercolor paper, More Mustard, Bronze Prism
Accessories: Crystal Effects, Mustard Satin ribbon, Textile Cuttlebug folder, Nestabilities, metallic brads, watercolor pencils (SU)

Have a Blessed Day, friends!!

Stamp Room

I thought I'd show you all where I am spending much of my time these days. My Stamp Room. It was Quite Full before. (refer to this post for pics). But now it's bare! Poor stamp room! I am quite worried about my stamps. They're all in boxes in storage in South Carolina awaiting our arrival and finding a place to live. Do you think they'll be okay?
My desk....

Yep, this is it. All that I kept. If I had to choose over again, I'd keep more of my ink pads. Maybe even ALL of them. I miss them dearly! And I didn't keep ANY of my punches of which I own hundreds! I miss those too! It was really hard to narrow down what I saved out. I kept more stamp supplies than I did clothes. LOL But I think this all should fit in one moving box and it really has been enough to make decent cards from.
On the homefront news: our house has been on the market for about 3 months. We've had TWO showings. It's so very slow out there. We reduced the price of our home about 3 weeks ago. Still no bites.
We're staying in Georgia a little longer than originally planned so we can save a little money. But, Kevin has to report for duty in August and we need to find a place to live so we'll be headed to South Carolina soon!
I know I am sounding like a broken record, but I ask for your continued prayers, my friends!
Thank you so much!
Hugs from me........

Lord's Prayer

Not long ago I saw this card made by my friend Amy and I fell in love with the sketch! I've kept it at the back of my mind for a while and finally decided to use it with this new stamp from Our Daily Bread. The Lord's Prayer comes as a single stamp. Here I have stamped it on Whisper White and embossed it with The Birds and Swirls Cuttlebug embossing folder. I paired PTI's Spring Moss with SU's Bashful Blue. If you haven't seen PTI's ribbons in real life, you're missing out. They are some of the most beautiful ribbons (Nope, I am not on their design team, that's an unbiased opinion.)
Card Recipe~
Stamps: ODBD Lord's Prayer
Ink: Night of Navy
Paper: Bashful Blue,Whisper White (SU) Spring Moss (PTI) DP by Provo Craft
Accessories: Cuttlebug folder, Pearl Accents (?), Spring Moss polka dotted ribbon
Wishing you all a Blessed day!

Scrap Addict Sketch

"The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare & beautiful flower of all."

It's time for another sketch from "Am I a Scrap Addict?". Deanne sends her team sketches twice a month and we work with them sending them back before the 1st and the 15th. But last month, I was able to talk Deanne into sending the July and August sketches before my things were packed up! I saved my images, but unfortunately didn't think to save my card recipes. I can tell you that the main image was a rub-on I got from Target and the sentiment is from Our Daily Bread's "Sing to the Lord". Wild Wasabi, Elegant Eggplant and So Saffron was my color group and a combination I really enjoyed.

TODAY brings the new releases from Our Daily Bread Designs! Be sure to get your Cross of Christ set. I think that one will be hugely popular. You've got to see what Laurie, Angie, Bev, and Kim have done with it! And don't forget to check out the set designer herself, Dina.

Have a wonderful day!

Movie Review

I only have one movie to review today since we didn't watch a lot of movies this week. We're trying to watch everything we have DVRd before we send our Dish units back. We are not going to be going with Dish again. Every time it rained we lost our signal. Even if it was just a sprinkle or even a little windy. We just weren't happy with it. Anyone have any suggestions for us on what to go with next time?

Secondhand Lions 2003

{Website here. }

PLOT~
"Secondhand Lions" follows the comedic adventures of an introverted boy left on the doorstep of a pair of reluctant, eccentric great-uncles, whose exotic remembrances stir the boy's spirit and re-ignite the men's lives.

Angel's Five Star Review:
I really enjoyed this movie. It's a good family movie and I give it 4 1/2 stars! ****1/2
Katie's Opinion:
Katie watched this movie for the second time as she liked it. She rates it an 8 and recommends it to families as well.

Happy Monday!!!

Give Thanks

I know it's not quite time for Thanksgiving, but there are only two more days until Our Daily Bread Designs brings out their 2 newest stamp sets! I've already showed you cards from one. The other is a Thanksgiving set called "Give Thanks". Kelley has previews of both sets as well as a single image of "The Lord's Prayer" on the ODBD site.
Here is my first card with "Give Thanks".
It seemed like I didn't have any of the supplies I wanted to use when I took this set out. I sure hope I am reunited with my stamp things soon.
I kept out only a few ink pads, but I did keep out my markers. I decided to try the brush marker technique and color directly on the stamp. I kinda like how it turned out. And "Give Thanks" is actually part of a Bible verse. I just omitted the other part.
You can see a few more "Give Thanks" cards by visiting a few of the other ODBD design team members: Dina Kowal, Kim Teasdale and Laurie Schmidlin.
I better get dinner made for my family!
Have a great week everybody!

Card Recipe~
Stamps: Give Thanks, Sanded
Ink: Assorted SU Markers
Paper: Mustard, Ruby, Shimmery White, Choc Chip, River Rock
Accessories: Distresser, Air Art tool, Wide Chocolate grosgrain and linen thread

Cross of Christ

A couple of months ago, Dina Kowal designed watermarks for the design team at Our Daily Bread Designs. The watermark included a gorgeous scrolled cross. I am SO glad that Kelley and Dina worked together to make this cross into it's own set. And so "Cross of Christ" was born!
The cross comes in 3 sizes and the set also includes the scripture I used earlier in the week and this quote as well as another and sentiments as well! I love it and HIGHLY recommend it! I can't wait to get the rest of my things from storage and emboss this cross!
Card Recipe:
Stamps~ ODBD Cross of Christ
Ink~ Soft Sky, Palette Black
Paper~ Soft Sky, Black, Shimmery White
Accessories~ Cuttlebug Divine Swirls Folder, Swirl clip (Target) Stitched Soft Sky ribbon, Swirly Rub-on from Deja Views' Sharon Anne "Delightful" collection
In personal news, we are back in Georgia for 2 more weeks. We looked at lots of houses in Sumter, South Carolina. We got a good idea of what the housing situation looks like. But so much is still up in the air. Until we sell our house, our hands are tied. I MUST get a job immediately. That we know. That will help offset the costs of paying for 2 homes. Kevin would like to buy, but renting appears to be our only option. I ask for your prayers as this is one of the most stressful situations I've been in. I do count my blessings, however! God is good and has taken care of us and I know He will continue to do so.
Have a great day!!!!!

July Divine Design

It was back in December that my sweet friend Lori came up with the idea of a core team of ladies who would challenge the blogging/stamping world each month to design a creation that would include a Bible verse that has personally touched us. What an awesome idea and it really took off! Each month I see many projects from those of you who join us in this challenge and I am so inspired by the choice of scriptures!!! God must be smiling to see His word spreading via the computer where so much of what's on these machine surely doesn't make Him happy!
My design this month? Having no printer at home, I was SO excited to see that one of the new sets premiering this month from Our Daily Bread Designs included this awesome scripture- a scripture that reminds me to focus on what or more specifically WHO is important!

"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus- the author and perfecter of our faith, who
for the joy set before Him endured the cross." ~Hebrews 12:2a

You can see more great designs from my fellow Scripture Chicks- Taylor, Nancy, Lori and Jami. We all would love for you to join us! Post your scripture project to your blog or share in the Splitcoast gallery using keyword: BVC08. The only requirement is that your design includes a scripture of your choosing.
We are in South Carolina at the base lodging facilities and my internet connection is awful. And it's SO late, so please forgive me, but I will have to add the details later!!!
I hope you all are having a great week!
Hugs~

Monday Movie Review

OOPS! I missed last week's movie review. Just way too much going on I guess! This week I am reviewing a couple of older movies. You won't find these in the "New Release" aisle! We didn't rent them, but watched these 2 movies while house/dog sitting this past weekend.

Alex and Emma
2003

{Website here. }

PLOT:
Alex (Luke Wilson) is an author whose writer's block and gambling debts have landed him in a jam. In order to get loan sharks off his back, he must finish his novel in 30 days or wind up dead. To help him complete his manuscript he hires stenographer Emma (Kate Hudson). As Alex begins to dictate his tale of a romantic love triangle to the charming yet somewhat opinionated stenographer, Emma challenges his ideas at every turn.

Angel's Five Star review:
A good classic "chick flick", I give this romantic comedy ***1/2 Three and a half Stars!

Katie's Opinion:

Katie gives this movie a seven on a scale of one to ten. She liked it for the most part. There was just one scene that she thought was unnecessary.

Big Fish
2003

{Trailers here. }.
PLOT:
Edward Bloom (Finney) has always been a teller of tall tales about his life as a young man (McGregor), when his wanderlust led him on an unlikely journey around the world. Bloom charms almost everyone he encounters except for his estranged son.

Angel's Five Star Review:
Another ****FOUR Stars from me for this drama/fantasy/comedy/adventure. I enjoyed the fairy tale stories being told by the father. A great "feel good" movie. But, do have your tissues handy!

Kevin's Point of View:
It's always nice to have another viewpoint and Kevin watched this movie with us so I asked him what he thought. On a scale of one to ten he gives the show a five. He didn't care for the flashbacks and felt the movie just didn't capture him.

July 4th Update

I'm still here!
Our house is empty. Most of our belongings are in South Carolina in storage. We are staying in the house here in Georgia until Kevin's last day of work here which is July 21. Then we will head to South Carolina. We are going up there to look around for a couple of days next week.
We kept our air mattresses to sleep on and a few lawn chairs to sit on. We have one TV and my laptop. A folding card table is our dining table, but we mostly use TV trays. I am actually worried that what we did keep may not all fit in the van and my vehi
cle. Of course that didn't stop me from keeping quite a bit of my stamp stuff. LOL
The last 3 days we kept Conner and Brodie while their house was being packed up. (Their mom just retired from the Air Force and they are moving back to Alabama.) The twins are gone now. The house sure is quiet without them.
The real estate market is proving to be particularly rough right now. Our house has been on the market for over 2 months and we have had TWO showings. That's scary to us, because sold or not we are leaving for South Carolina in less than 3 weeks and paying to live somewhere else. We lowered our selling price as much as we really can. Please keep us in your prayers, friends!

With my daughter's help I finally figured out how to upload pics to my laptop from my camera. Yay!!!
AND I received some new
ODBD images from Kelley this week so I'm hoping to do some stamping over the long weekend!
I hope you all have a
wonderful holiday weekend.

~Angel~
