Spare Bedroom

We've been getting ready for the kids to arrive and working on our spare bedroom. We had used that room as our "family" room with the couch and love seat that was in our basement in Wichita. But with Jake, Megan and Brian coming December 20th, we wanted to make it into an actual bedroom. The theme of the room is a log cabin feel and we found a rustic bedroom set that worked perfectly. Our mattress arrived today and Katie and I just finished setting it up.

I can't wait until the kids arrive!!
Hugs~

We Three Wreaths

I always show my hubby the cards I have made that day when he arrives home from work. Sometimes I will put them up on my bulletin board and have him guess which ones are new. He's very good and usually always guesses right. As I have mentioned before, he is also where I turn to when I can't think of what I need to fix on a card. He gives great constructive criticism. That is why I was nearly floored when he told me he didn't like this card. I think it's the first time he has said that. He's getting way too comfortable with me....hehehe. I guess that is why we are about to celebrate our 22nd anniversary. :-)
The card opens to a strip of DP along the inside bottom edge. You can barely see it here, but it reads "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas". The front panel is cut a little shorter so you can read this strip.

I still like the card even though he doesn't. He said it was too busy because of the white fibers. I cut off a good portion of the "fluff" after he advised me. He may like it more now. The card was inspired by a couple of challenges. This one from Papertake Weekly Challenges was to use 3 images on your card. I used three wreaths! And this one from Raissa Stamps to use your punches creatively. My card qualifies for both. I love multitasking. (I hate the phrase killing two birds with one stone.... but that's what I did here.)
I used four different punches for my card. The large Marvy scalloped circle, the small Martha Stewart 1" scalloped circle, the Paper Shaper bulb and the Stampin Up Snowflake (middle makes the asterisk looking piece).
Card Recipe:
Stamps~none
Ink~none
Paper~previously mentioned Stax by Brother Sister, DP by K&I Memories, SU Green Galore
Accessories~ Punches, Fibers, Dimensionals

I took a picture of my stamp room, but decided it was way too embarrassing to show the world. But, I plan on cleaning it today and making quick work of my to-do list. We have furniture being delivered today for our spare bedroom. Our kids need a place to sleep when they come to visit in 23 DAYS!!! And I want to get my Christmas decorations out. So, that means I have cleaning to do. I love to decorate a clean house!
Don't forget to email me if you are interested in having a weight loss buddy. It's only a one month commitment! It just may be what you need to get you through the holidays without over indulging.
Have a great day, friends!

Sketchin Again

Just a quick card to share today. I once again used the weekly sketch I borrowed from Julee along with a Bella I received from a friend! I don't own a single Bella stamp, so it's a treat for me to play with the images. I feel like I have gotten to borrow the stamp!
All of the background papers I used here are scraps so I can't tell you off hand what they are. I can find out if you want to know.... just email me or comment here!
Don't forget to email me if you are interested in having a Weight Loss Buddy. I realize it is not the best time of year to diet, but some of us are just at the point where we HAVE to start doing something! (me)
Have a great day!!!

Monday Sketch #2

Today's sketch is a week late and I didn't even realize it! I completely skipped last week. Where did the time go? Must have been Thanksgiving that messed me up. Anyway, I only had a few participants last time, but I drew a winner from those names and Sue wins the prize! Sue, email me with your snail mail address and I'll hopefully get it out this week along with some others that I know are waiting patiently!
This week I am borrowing a sketch from one of the pros! Julee Tilman from
Poetic Artistry has graciously allowed me to use her sketch for my Weekly Sketch! Julee featured this sketch back in May on her blog here. She also has a Mojo Monday sketch every week. So, if you're looking for SUPER sketches to work with check out Julee's blog!
I am back to my pink and green! For some reason those are the colors I keep going back to for my Christmas cards! For my cards, almost everything except the ribbon and base cardstock came in this 8x8 STAX I got for only $5 (half price) at HL!
The cardstock in it is textured and there is a sheet of tags, 2 sheets of alphabets and 4 sheets of vellum sentiments! I used a variety of punches to make my cards. Not much to them really! Julee's sketch made it easy!

Now, I'm off to make some more cards! If you want to play this week, just post your card using Julee's sketch on your blog and email me or comment here with a link to your card. I'll have a random drawing for the winner and announce next Monday!
Have a great week!
~Angel
P.S. Don't forget to email me if you are interested in a weight loss buddy. See my earlier post today for more details!

Weight Loss Buddies Wanted

Christmas is coming and along with Christmas comes candy, cookies, fudge and lots of other yummy treats such as my mom's homemade candies. Mmmm.... she makes the best "Mounds". They are better than the actual coconut candy bar! Sorry.... back to topic. It's been so hard to stick to a weight loss plan lately!
I've been spending a lot of time thinking about my weight loss issues and have come to a realization. Not long ago I met my personal weight loss goals, going from a size 18 to a size 8. But this last year has been a roller coaster for me during which I have gone back up into a size 12. I do think I know what helps me to lose weight!

  1. Motivation

  2. Competition

  3. Goals

  4. Rewards

  5. A Buddy

What better place to find all of these things than Blogland? That's where YOU come into play. Does all of this sound a lot like you? Would you like a buddy with similar goals? I would love to match you to someone who would be your buddy! There are some requirements to this "program" and I would love to share them with you!!
Please email me at
angel2stamp@yahooDOTcom for more details. There's no commitment for you to get the information and there is NO cost at all to participate.
Help me get the word out so I can get everyone a buddy! Please post a link to my blog from yours. Everyone who posts a link on your blog and then comments here will be put into a drawing for a Heidi Swapp Edge Distresser and whatever else I may throw in the envelope!

I hope to launch my Buddy program December 1st. This will be a month long commitment only.
Email me for more information!
Have a great day!!!

Snowy Man

It's Snowing! Not here of course, but it is back in Kansas!
Hubby and I are getting ready to go do a little more shopping. This time we hope to find a bed for the spare bedroom so our kids will have a place to sleep when they visit at Christmas time!
I wanted to get my card posted before we leave.
I keep going back to pink and green for my Christmas cards. So, those colors will most likely be what I will use for most of them.
I got this cute snowman at HL last week. I keep seeing the cutest snowmen and I seriously lack in that department, so I had to buy this guy.

Black Friday

I don't know about you, but I was wondering why it was called "Black Friday" so I looked up the origin of the term!
According to Wikipedia....".... 'Black Friday' was originally so named because of the heavy traffic on that day, although most contemporary uses of the term refer instead to it as the beginning of the period in which retailers are in the black (i.e., turning a profit)." Okay.... my curiosity is satisfied.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I made a new dessert and fell in love with it! So I decided to share it with you. I would certainly show you a picture but it didn't last long enough to take one! I am not a big pie person, but LOVE anything pumpkin. This cake was amazingly light and moist for a pumpkin dessert!
Edited to Add: I found the last piece in the frig and took a pic....it wasn't gone after all!

Pumpkin Pie Cake
with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting

INGREDIENTS:
1 (15 ounce) can canned pumpkin puree
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix with pudding
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

FROSTING:
1/2 cup butter, softened
4 (3 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan. Whisk together the pumpkin, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Set aside.
In a large bowl, mix together the cake mix and oil. Beat in the eggs, then fold in the pumpkin mixture. Stir in the vanilla.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool.

To make cream cheese frosting: Cream together the butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy. Beat in the confectioners' sugar, mixing until smooth. Stir in the cinnamon and vanilla. Spread frosting over cooled cake.

Hubby and I woke up at 3:00 this morning to go shopping. I made a hot cup of chai to go and we were off. I won't bore you with tales of our hours of standing in lines or the mad traffic woes, but suffice it to say, I am pooped. I am particularly excited about a couple of great finds for the perfect gifts, but I'm aware the recipients are some of my blog browsers, so I'll have to keep it to myself for now!
I hope to have some stamping done soon! Hopefully I will have a card to share tomorrow!
Have a great day!
Blessings~

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Delights

On Thanksgiving Day, we’re thankful for
Our blessings all year through,
For family we dearly love,
For good friends, old and new.

For sun to light and warm our days,
For stars that glow at night,
For trees of green and skies of blue,
And puffy clouds of white.

We’re grateful for our eyes that see
The beauty all around,
For arms to hug, and legs to walk,
And ears to hear each sound.

The list of all we’re grateful for
Would fill a great big book;
Our thankful hearts find new delights
Everywhere we look!

Projects

I had a light bulb moment the other day while I was trying to figure out ways to make a little money during the holiday season. (Sometimes we really miss that second income.) I decided to make up some small gifty items and take a basket of them to Bible study (if I am allowed). Katie and I have been working on a few this week so I thought I would share here on my blog. Here is the first one we've done. These are purse Christmas lists and matching pens. I will tie them up with ribbon or package them in cellos. We made a dozen of these.... all different. I have found the little notebooks at Walgreen's before for a dime.... but not in a long time. I did find a great deal at Big Lots though if you're wondering what the best deal is.

I've been playing with my blog settings... trying to find one I like that's different. So, don't mind the changing scenery!
Ya'll come back now, ya hear?
HUGS~

Beate's Weekend Sketch #28

Now that my month of sketches is over, I am excited to be able to do some other sketches. And Beate's Weekend Sketch is always a great time!

And of course I couldn't wait to play with my CHF set Pretty Birds- a gift from SWEET Lori!

My bird is paper pieced because as Lori pointed out to me how easily Kim Hughes designs are to cut out, mask or paper piece. SO easy! And Kevin suggested mounting all of the papers to one corner. I like the effect!

Card Recipe:
Stamps~ CHF Pretty Birds, SU Paisley
Ink~ Pumpkin, Basic Brown, Celery
Paper~ Shimmery White, Soft Sky, Pumpkin, Celery, Provo Craft DP
Accessories~ Circle and scalloped Circle Punches, Blender pen, sponge, Paper Piercing tool

Another great sketch from Beate!
Have a great weekend, friends!
Blessings!

More Birthday Cards...

I have a few more birthday cards to share. Like I said, I got so many pretty cards in the mail this year. I was blessed many times over. This first card comes from my long time friend, Kristina. She was my first workshop I had after moving to Kansas. She has a great eye for detail and produces some of the prettiest creations. This one is no exception!

Then there is this super Bella Birthday card from Andrea at Crafts on a Whim. She was so sweet to send me not only this very pretty card, but there were also several Bella images inside! I'm a lucky girl!
This card from my friend for life, Tracy arrived around my birthday as well. Isn't it pretty?

Missing Something?

Have you ever looked at a card or project and thought to yourself...."It's missing something!"?While sometimes less IS more.... sometimes it just isn't! SO... I have started to compile a list. My list encompasses little things you can "do" to add that finishing touch to your card. I have started the list hoping you can help me add to it! If you think of something to ADD, let me know!
  • Round Corner(s)
  • Distress Edge(s)
  • Add Stickles
  • Add Glitter
  • Add a Photo Corner Punch
  • Ribbon (tie a bow, staple a piece on, wrap around card)
  • Air Art
  • Sponge ink on card edge or run along the edge with ink
  • Doodle a frame
  • Paper Pierce a corner or edge
  • Add button(s)
  • Use a background stamp (or 2) such as Linen, Canvas, Sanded,
  • Pop something up (even one word of your sentiment in another color)
  • Hang a Tag

Can you think of anything else? Comment here and leave your idea(s) and I will update with your suggestions!

With Sympathy

I hate needing Sympathy cards. I really do. I needed this one to send to my aunt as my cousin passed away this last Sunday. He lived the last several years trapped in a body that had already given up on him. I hope he's in a better place.
Card Recipe:
Stamps~ Warmest Regards (SU) Flower (RSF)
Ink~ Perfect Plum, Artichoke
Paper~ Perfect plum, Sahara Sand, DP from PC Super Slab
Accessories~ SU ribbon, MM brads, distresser
I went to my weekly sketch for this card. Following a sketch gives me a starting point. Sometimes I'll start with a color combo or a DP that I want to use, but I usually have a launch pad of some sort. That Provo Craft Super Slab my hubby bought me is where I started as well. The DP comes from there as well as the card stock sticker strips.
This last summer I was chosen by
Rubber Stamping Fun to review one of their new stamp sets. I was sent an awesome set which includes these flowers as well as 3 verses on friendship and another flower image as well. I've used those sentiments MANY times over the last few months and find the flowers to be perfect for a Sympathy or other Thinking of You type card.
I'm babysitting this morning so I better get ready. Thanks for visiting me today!

Birthday Bliss

The birthday party continues! I am SO excited. You should have heard me squeal with delight as I ripped open my birthday envelope from my SWEET friend, Lori!

Please forgive me as I brag just a little bit.
I GOT THE BIRDS!!!!!!!!
Lori KNOWS me! Boy, does she know me! For my birthday she sent me this CHF set "Pretty Birds". I wanted it so bad and had already decided to order it. I can't wait to play with it!

She also sent this very sweet card. It's girly and glittery... AND too cute!

I don't want to appear to be too much of an RAK piggy, but I do have a few more to show you today! I'll save a few for tomorrow.
I got the prettiest handmade birthday cards in the mail this year. (And some very pretty store bought ones too..... Hallmark is having to step it up a notch these days to compete with us crafties!)

This card came from Patti G.
I wish you could see this one in real life.
It's absolutely gorgeous!

And speaking of gorgeous.... it doesn't get much more gorgeous than this stunning creation by Rose Ann.
Do you know Rose Ann? She is one of my very favoritest people in the blog world!
Drop by her blog and prepare to ooh and ahh!
I better stop there.... I'll show the rest tomorrow.
Thank you ladies for making my birthday so special!
Love
Angel

Those are my 5 nominations for Creative Blogger Award!
Thanks again, Rachel!

Challenging Myself

My hubby was off on Monday for Veteran's Day and in a great pampering mood! So, of course we went to Michael's with the 50% off coupon! With my coupon, he bought me a white wood drawer unit for my ever-growing paper collection (only $15.00!). Then as I was picking out a few pieces of paper he pointed out that the Slabs were 30% off and a much better value for my money. Hmmm.... why not? I bought a Super Slab that had die cuts and tags in it. I've made a couple of cards with it already and I love it! This is one.

I was blurfing yesterday when I ran across
Jen's challenge. Looked like fun so I made a card using her sketch.

Card Recipe:
Stamps~ Wonderful Words, Print Pattern
Ink~ Sahara Sand, Regal Rose, White Craft
Paper~ Sahara Sand, Provo Craft Super Slab 9 (By Karen Mieux)

Accessories~ MM clip and brads and pop dots

I faux embossed the sentiment using my Stampamajig for placement.
(Julie has a tutorial on this technique here.) It looks a bit blurry in the pic, but it really isn't. For the background, I inked up my Print Pattern stamps with Sahara Sand ink and then sponged on some Regal Rose ink to bring in the pink.

I've got a few more challenges I want to try if I have time today. AND I've got more birthday cards to share. But first things first and that means housework! Ugh!
Have a great Wednesday!
Blessings~
Angel

Free Rice Game

Anyone else like word games??
I saw this on Allison's site and decided to play!
If you have some time on your hands, play this vocab game and help fight world hunger at the same time! Hmmm... I even challenge you to match my 800 grains of rice. Have fun!
Come back here and share your totals!
(I ended with a vocab score of 36.)

Fundraiser Fun

A while back (a long while back actually) hubby asked me to make something for a silent auction-type fundraiser for his squadron. I was smack dab in the middle of my month-long blogabration and already had one desk set I needed to make so he had to wait. But this last weekend I finally made a couple of things for him. This desk set is one and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. This set needed a little more than I usually include in my desk sets, due to the fact that this is a FUND raiser after all.

Included in the set are:
Silver mesh letter tray holder
Pen and pencil cup (includes 3 RSVP pens made to match, 3 highlighters and 2 black mechanical pencils)
memo cube
Acrylic frame stand up 2007 calendar (2008 calendar included to switch out)
Round magnetic tin (holds rubber bands)
Note card box (Alphabetized dividers/index cards included)
Magnets in acrylic box
Not pictured here: Small round tin of paperclips

The magnets determined my color scheme and I wanted the set to appeal to everyone...men and women. So, I didn't include flowers or bling. A few quotes on life gave it some interest. I used a variety of black and white papers, brads, ribbons and punches. The only stamping was on the pencil cup.... the quote from Paper Trey set "Little Lady".

I love making these desk sets and each one is so different from the last.
I have to finish my other project for the fundraiser and get some cellophane to wrap this one up in. I've got lots more to share this week so stay tuned!
Blessings~~

Monday Sketch #1 (A Pair of Bubbens!)

And what is a Bubben you may ask? Well, it's a mischievous little stamp, that's for sure. I've lost this little guy a couple of times now and found him in the weirdest places. The last time I found him inside last year's SU catalog a week after giving up the search! He has sat on my desk for the past month now and I've almost used him several times. But, these are the very first cards that I've actually made with him. I won my Bubben back in August during Landstoken's month long Bubben giveaway. Bubbens come disguised in many forms- fish, Santa, reindeer, baby, pig and more. I won the Bunny Bubben which was really the one I may have chosen since my DD loves Happy Bunny and this Bubben reminds me so much of it. They are an unmounted purple rubber which stamps very well when mounted onto an acrylic block using double stick tape (Thanks, Lori!)
Since many of my blogging buddies asked, I am going to keep offering sketches on a weekly basis. I'll have a drawing every Monday (this gives you a whole week to play!) and then I will send the sketch card and a little something sweet to my weekly winner. (You will want to play if you can!)
I think this week's sketch is a pretty easy. Don't you want to play???

And I made a pair of cards so I could send one to my son who has an interview for a position he desperately wants. I told him he is a shoe in with his unique and charming personality.
Card Recipe:
Stamps~ Bunny Bubben, Snap Stamps, Sanded, Linen, and Stitchings by Technique Tuesday
Ink~ Blue Bayou, Choc Chip, Basic Brown
Paper~ Blue Bayou, Choc Chip, Kraft, DP by Sandy Lion and piecings are Provo Craft and Whisper White
Accessories~ Hemp String, distresser, blender pen

(A closer look at the stitching)
Your turn! Comment on this post with a link to your card or email me your creation!
Have a blessed day! And Good Luck!

Birthday Blessings

I love you guys! I know there are quite a few of you who visit my blog regularly and I feel fortunate to have you as my bloggin' buddies, family and friends! My birthday was such a blessing and it was because of you. I know my friend Shelley reads my blog and spending the day with her was extra special for me!
She picked me up at 11 and we went to Logan's, my favorite place, for lunch! Here is me with baby Ashton.

He's getting so big! I had the whole afternoon with Ashton yesterday. I held him almost the whole time. I don't get him very often so I figured it was okay to spoil him a little. He had the biggest smiles for me and just cooed and jabbered away! I love babies!
After lunch Shelley and I went shopping. She took me to a craft mall/boutique which had many vendors. Here we are trying on JUMBO sunglasses. (We tucked the tags in so that's what you see in one lens....LOL).
And here is Shelley in the cutest pink hat that would have went with those sunglasses.

We had a fun day. Kevin and Katie took me to dinner at my other favorite place in town- Sonny's BBQ.... when we leave I am going to miss Sonny's and their deep fried corn nuggets! Our waitress was super sweet and sent a big bowl of peach cobbler home with me for my birthday. I was so full it hurt!
I was so fortunate to have received some beautiful birthday cards in the mail from my bloggin' buddies. I usually forget to share my RAKs. I am going to try to get better about that!
Here is a gorgeous pink (my favorite color by the way) creation by Deb! I have to know where you got this bird, Deb! It's SO cool!

I received this sweet Bella card from Rachel. (Rachel, this Bella is SO me!)
Rachel also sent some AWESOME Heidi Swapp rub-on corners that I AM so excited about.
I can't wait to use them!!! LOVE them.... THANK YOU!!

And then I also got a super cool card from Dawn. I would love to have this "Fabulous Flowers" set and Dawn's card makes me want it so much more! Isn't it pretty?

I've got a busy day today. I put so much on hold while doing my month-long birthday Blogabration. It's time to get back to the real world! I've got some cool stuff to share with you though.... I won't forget you guys either.
AND I plan on having a weekly sketch too! I'll post it on Monday. But you'll have the whole week to complete it and when I post the next Monday sketch I'll choose a winner of the previous week's participants. I'll have a little prize along with my sketch card to send to the winner. How's that sound?
Have a FABULOUS weekend, bloggin' buddies!

A BIG WINNER!

Please believe me when I say that I wish I could give everyone who played a Big box of treats like the one our winner will enjoy. But only one grand prize winner there will be. There were several "winners" along the way.
Michelle was the winner for guessing my age.
Maria won the random drawing for completing my poll.
Brenda who was randomly chosen for her organizational tip.
Many of you got extra entries for sending sketches and posting early bird entries!
For completing the circular card challenge I will be sending an RAK to: Brenmarie, CAKVD, Cathy S, Laura, Inknrubba, Jayme, Maria, Monica, Tracy H, and Tricia. Please give me time, ladies, I want your RAK to be special!
Cathy got an extra entry for guessing the Luscious Lime pad was my missing ingredient!
Monica, , Carla, and Maria all won a special prize for their sketch entries!

And then last but not least.....

I used little strips of paper with the name of the enterer and the number of the sketch they used for their entry (or bonus for other entries). I think I got em all in there! Not an easy task to be sure!
Another shuffle of the basket and our winner this time is:

CONGRATULATIONS, Cheryl!!!!!
I hope you enjoy the box of goodies coming soon to a doorstep very near to YOU!
Blessings
~Angel

All entries are now over. You may continue to use my sketches for as long as you wish! Please link back here if you do! Thanks, friends!

Congratulations, Chrystal!!

Thank you!

My inbox was full of birthday wishes this morning and I read them all while I ate my stack of pancakes with peanut butter and syrup. (Hey...it's my birthday!)
I just wanted to say thank you! It has been a fun ride this month. (Next time it will probably ONLY be 2 weeks, but hey....it was fun!) If you've come along with me on this ride, I feel like I really know you! I am so excited that many of you completed ALL 31 cards (PLUS some even!) Until my birthday, that is! Which means it's tomorrow!!! YEAH!
Lucky duckies- Michelle, Dawn, Tracy, Jayme and Cheryl get an extra chance at the goodies for being early birds with their card #31! The rest of you still have a lot of time left to get your cards in for more chances at the loot. I'll be drawing early in the morning on November 8... the day after my birthday because I've got plans for my birthday and they don't include blogging. Sorry. :-)

You've already seen Maria's marvelous sketch which is my 1st place winner. Maria has more sketches on her blog so if you're hooked on sketches.... go check em out!

My final card is of course a BIRTHDAY card. I think it may be my goddaughter's first birthday card.
(I make 2 of every card.... one goes into the basket!) I may make another one with a blue candle for my godson. Their first birthday isn't until May, so I am early! Let's see if I can mail them early enough now. (I tend to be late in mailing even though they sit on my desk.... I don't know why! Can I blame my parents? hehehe.... Just kidding ,MOM!)

I found the paper piecing template at PaperPiecing.com. They've got some fabulous templates there and a lot of them are free including this one!
